Re: Feeling more Optimistic

You are lucky Westie, I have never had any trouble growing courgettes before but this year I have had them planted out 4 weeks now and they have hardly grown since I put them in! I have planted 3 in the polytunnel now to see if they will grow any better. I begrudge buying courgettes in the shops as ...

onions turning green

I put my onions on a mesh shelf in the polytunnel to dry a few weeks ago, but when I,ve used some of them the first couple of layers are green. Do you think it is because I put them in the polytunnel to dry as I normally put them in the shed? I have now put them in the shed but they all look green.

Pupa on blackcurrant bush

Last week I noticed a lot of aphids on my bush so I rubbed as many off as I could. Today when I checked on the underside of some of the curled leaves I found a small pale green pupa which I squashed. Then I found a little ladybird under one, then I started to worry that I had squashed something to d...

Re: Frost alert!

My asparagus are all limp due to the frost, I only hope it doesn,t affect the roots as I've never had this happen before. I have cut them off rather than leave them on to rot and I,ll just have to wait and see if I get some more spears come up. Fingers crossed as I do like my asparagus and we can,t ...

Re: Lovely weekend promised - what has everyone got planned?

I will plant some Charllote potatoes tomorrow and I think I will try germinating some parsnip seed on paper like what was s...

Re: Happy Birthday Mrs L.

Thank you all for your kind birthday wishes, I'm afraid my day was the same as any other - looking after the grandchildren. But I will make up for it at the weekend, spend my birthday money and have a couple of drinks on the night.

RABBIT DROPPINGS

When I went to pick some sprouts over the allotment there was piles and piles of rabbit droppings around them. I think they must have been having a party! Do you think this extra "manure" will be good for the soil? I think I am going to be busy when the weather improves - trying to rabbit ...

Hated the newspaper cut into squares that passed for toilet paper in the outside loo!
Loved lying in the tin bath in front of the triplex fire with a drink in my hand when I was first married and we didn't have a bathroom.

Re: Brussels Sprouts

My sprouts have nearly all blown(look like flowers) which I thought was caused by not firming them in enough but I did stamp them in. So next year I think I'll have to get hubby and his 18st to firm them in!

I was seeing the nurse at our doctors about 3yrs ago just for a routine smear test and I asked if I could have my cholestrol checked as I have no idea what it is and she said-oh no we dont do healthy peoples in case it gives them something to worry about!!!!!!! So I just hope it is ok. My dad is on ...
