Re: 2009 will be a great year

Wow! Johnboy I wish I needed less sleep. Or is it a curse! I would be dead on my feet if I only got 4 hrs sleep each 24hrs. I bet you get loads done. And time to read...bliss. I squeeze my reading into many 10 to 15 min bytes throughout the day. Its only during holiday times I get to read for more t...

Re: Productive plants for a dry bank?

The bank has a good layer of soil on the top and I am constantly adding more. Under that it has very good drainage (well collapsed logs and branches covered in soil). It started as a place to leave logs & branches to encourage wildlife and it worked. The underbank, viewed from the lower side is ...

Re: Binding problems!

I thought about whether or not to use that particular Beryl Cook painting as one of my Avatars. Decided it was fun and still subtle enough to be used in the public domain. Alan seems to have sourced some seedier material!!!! Wearing just a fur coat though is a lovely feeling, just like swimming in t...

Re: Productive plants for a dry bank?

Thankyou all, for the suggestions..very helpful. My horseradish has a designated area (constrained). I tried Jerusalem Artichokes on my husband and various vegetarian guests (I part steamed them then we dipped them into a cheese fondue, yummm!). Unfortunately they caused a nasty 'trouser cough' prob...

Re: Dreams of Chickens!

Thankyou John & Diane, very helpful.
I think I will look more seriously at keeping chickens. I do like cats. I just didn't know how they will be with chickens since there are so many cats that visit my garden.

Re: Why do PMs stick in the outbox sometimes?

I just sent my first PM and this helped me. I was wondering why my message was sitting in the Outbox when the Sent time said 13:52 (a few minutes had gone by). I too thought it would work like email.
We do presume don't we!

Binding problems!

I received a few binders to store my KG mags in recently and today set about binding 3 years worth. Finished and feeling good about it I put them on the bookshelf. . Little while later I went to look for articles on raspberries (thinking of moving them so gathering info). I have put the whole of 200...

Re: Productive plants for a dry bank?

Since I mentioned the pigeons here they are for you to see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/garden_serf/3158689573/ Unfortunately the wire, at the RHS of the photo, is also directly overhead my greenhouse. Cleaning off the pigeon mess it is a frequent job. Note: I did not locate the greenhouse there, i...

Dreams of Chickens!

I dreamt of keeping Chickens last night. Must be an omen. I have been reading your posts here with interest, and the KG article yesterday, both have prompted the dreams no doubt. I have a question; How do domestic cats usually react with your Chickens? I do not have any cats but ALL my neighbours do...

Productive plants for a dry bank?

I have a very dry slightly sloping bank area that is available for use at the bottom of my garden. I have gradually been improving the soil, but the deepest/underneath part of it is a 3-4ft layer of 2 year old cut logs and branches, covered with soil. Thus it is drains very well and is dry. The top ...
