Re: Don't buy clothes!

Ahh - Comfort first then!

I went to a fancy dress as a scarecrow in hessian.
I scratched so much people were avoiding me as
they thought I had something nasty.

Re: Ok Sweet-tooth, own up.

Oh My I may have bought the second last - white freckles mainly - but ate them all. I made a special trip for them as they are my fav and other ones don't taste the same. I did keep the bag for a little bit but then re-used it when I looked in the closed shop and there were some bags on the floor an...

Potato Onions

Hi I've just received my tree onions and potato onions (and a few other bits) from Poyntzfield Herb Nursery (recommended look fine plants and fairly prompt delivery). Anyway I bought them on impulse and having googled it they seem to be a good replacement for ordinary shallots with few problems and ...

Re: Sharpening knives

Hi I got myself one of those water sharpeners and it is great. Two wheels in a little holder that you fill with water and pull the knives through. Wouldn't have except it was recommended for the posh knives I got for my birthday a couple of years ago but it has been worth its weight in gold. Just co...

Re: Duff Seed?

Aye - it was duff! Seed in comparison just went mouldy - grew some fuzz and rotted. I have no evidence that I bought it from the Garden Centre but I will mention it to them when I go down next. In the meantime everything else is tickety boo so will be pricking out when I get back from Lottie. I have...

Re: PLOT PLANNING

Haven't tried it but seen it written up in some articles. Looks good but would probably be best for first year onward. Doesn't say you can submit previous plans, so from this year you could be putting everything in the wrong place. I enjoy doing my plan (also good practice with computer skills), but...

Re: Do plants give off heat?

Also you see on some of the wild life programmes
on night vision some of the plants glow quite
brightly. Not so relevant in current programmes
as they use more high tech equipment but the older
ones were heat sensitive.

Re: Duff Seed?

Thanks Everyone

I think the comparison test is the answer so will
try that but either way will get some more seed
as there is much more stock in now at the garden
centre so hopefully nice and fresh and they haven't
had a chance to abuse it in storage.

Duff Seed?

I planted onion seed the first week in Jan in heated propagator - absolutely nothing came up. I re-sowed some on 23/1 and nothing from them either. The seed was bought fresh from the garden centre this year but on reflection they did not have much avail so it could have been old seed but it is in da...

Melons Outdoors

Hi I am determined to suceed with melons outside and am thinking of getting those cheap pop up greenhouses to cover & warm them a bit more. However these pop ups are quite small and will only cover the actual plant and the stems would have to crawl outside with the melons on them. Would this be ...

Re: Snow

Know what you mean but not going down to Lottie to confirm it! We probably have about an inch here but stopped now and seems to be melting already. Fortunately went down yesterday and covered up some of the littlies so hopefully they are OK. It was so cold though I didn't stay long. We don't get muc...

Re: lamb shank recipe

Hi Tracie

Also try www.taste.com.au - lots of recipes
to try there. Site is also great for interesting
budget recipes - page after page, although you
have to bear in mind that some things that are
cheap in Aussie are not here but loads of
different things to try regardless.

Re: Cut my Losses with Leeks?

Hi JB Thanks for the info - very informative. Previous years mine have been quite pot bound and have done brill so that may be the secret. Unfortunately neighbours cats and a fox were the undoing of my seedlings last year. Although someone at lottie recommended the site I bought from I have not been...

Re: Cut my Losses with Leeks?

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the replies. I will give them
a little longer as I am not sure whether
they are early or lates. They are too
small to even consider taking them as
mini ones - they have literally done nothing.

Well at least I know where not to buy plants
I supppose - lesson learnt.

Cut my Losses with Leeks?

Hi Due to diaster with my own leeks I bought some in. They were diappointing - not as thick as a knitting needle let alone a pencil. I put them in as they also arrived very late, but they are still miniscule and have hardly grown. (Thanks to help from birds & mole). Will they do anything now or ...
