Re: Deer damage on sorbus
Interesting under 'Monitor the Wound', it states for Pus??? Is there a specific tree pus? Strange terminology? Anyway I was wondering about Heal & Seal, I use it to cover the cut off bits when I cut out the canker on the Apple Trees branches & trunk.

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
Can anyone recommend a decent hose? Expandable isn't much good as the water pressure changes dependent on how many hoses on the taps & if through is also being used for filling cans. Having a non expandable will be fine as it has a designated spot but the last few I bought were rubbish & bar...

Re: What are these invading the plot?
It's driving me batty trying to figure out what it is, maybe something was disturbed on the railway embankment & blew my way? When I have caught up with the chores I shall get on with painting the older ones. I note they are also on the neighbours side as well & outside his fence line....pro...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
I don't think I will be enjoying any red fleshed plums this year. Doing my inspection rounds today I noted all the teeny fruit were withered & black along the stem. Not the cold as it always blooms really early, even in January & baby fruit survives frost. I'm wondering if just one storm too...

Re: What are these invading the plot?
I can add that whatever they are they are good at spreading. My neighbour strimmed my front for me so I thought I might as well tackle these flower beds so they look nice. More time spent trying to remove an accumulation of these all around one of the roses than general weeding. These leaves were bi...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
Surprised to find the temp in the tunnel was just 4.1C this morning. It didn't feel anywhere near that cold going down to the plot even though a warm fleece was needed. When I left it was near 30C in there. Just reading that low temp made me feel colder so stayed in there for a bit & fortunately...

Re: What are these invading the plot?
Someone looked it up on their phone & felt the little plant & catkin & seeds are not related & the plant is likely to be Field Maple, but like Bramble neither have the rose tinge to the leaves like these, even though leaf shape is similar. I might add others I asked came up with comp...

What are these invading the plot?
My plot is full of these at the back, last year they blew toward the front & I had little plants everywhere. Easy to pull straight up when tiny, but last year they were hidden under the Rhubarb & difficult to remove when the Rhubarb died down as put out horizontal roots which were hard to tr...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
I finished all the re-sows & even weeded the back strawberries & Autumn raspberries. No wonder some first sows were no shows, their beds were really compacted, even though dug over & racked at the time. I suspect the rain/sun weather dynamics over the last few weeks has capped it as the ...

Re: Going Green, but not doing so?
I don't use it. I read something that even if you use it 'sparingly' which is not defined; it will leech into surrounding soil & also kill anything growing near the area treated, but also kills slugs which we know, good bacteria in the soil, earthworms etc. You also have to ask what research has...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
Gusty & a bit of heavy rain on & off but gave me a chance to catch up on other jobs, so packed up all the seedlings from the propagator to take down tomorrow & it's been disinfected & popped under the back bed until next year. I'll sow the squash & pumpkins & beans on the sta...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
Another productive day sorting & sowing & starting to feel a bit bit more in charge. I am mostly sowing direct again hoping that my Neomode & Slugo assault is enough to control the slimy ones, but did not see very many when I was weeding & my bucket collection was really reduced. Jus...
