Called in at the allotment today,very wet but from experience three good days of a drying wind will enable me to get on with winter digging.Trimmed back some branches on the apple tree and cut out crossing branches and the weak ones.Disappointed with the size of the Kestral potatoes which I received...

Hello Stravaig.Your food items will have to be binned.Farmers are not allowed to make or feed Pig Swill from kichen or commercial food waste since the EU and UK banned the practice after an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in 2001.

Now that I have turned 80 my pension has increased by a whole 25 pence per week!In the same delivery the taxman wrote that my tax codes were changing because I owed the Government money from my savings interest.What is given by one hand is taken away by the other!!!

Notice on gate to site "Organic Manure for sale £140 a load,£90 half load".Doesn.t state what constitutes a load or half load.Can't see many takers at that price .

Had a rummage and a tidy up of my shed and found that I ws low on specially formulated fertiliser for the likes of onions,brasssicas,potatoes etc.I have a 20Kg bag of growmore and that got thinking"Do I need to order more of the special formulas?Should I just use the growmore instead?"Look...

Perlite versus Vermiculite.

Both seem to do the same job when added to compost for potting up etc water retention,opening up said compost.using as a medium in which to grow cuttings.What is the difference between them,if any?If you use either of them,what for and how and why?

I don't grow a lot of potatoes now because in my household I am the only one who eats them on a regular basis,threeto four times a week and it seems to me that the scab in my ground is getting worse.I will buy 2.5Kgs of Kestral or similar but looking around the suppliers the prices for that size bag...
