Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
We got the barrier in for the laurel roots, then I gave the hedge a big haircut. I am loathe to plant anything out, as it will all be demolished overnight. I just evicted over 60 slugs roaming free on the lawn. Feeling slightly icky now.

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
I'm hoping for a clear day tomorrow, as I have a craft market in CHesham. Fingers crossed! Sunday & Monday we need to do some major structural work in the veg bed, pulling back the soil along one edge and putting in a barrier to the laurel hedge roots that are continually clogging the soil and s...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
I walked away from my post for a few minutes, and it's gone. I can't remember what I wrote now! Something about rain and walking and elder blossom.

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
I thought I might get a few carrots this year, after last year's all got eaten. I sowed them in a large pot this time, along with spring onions and a few salad bowl lettuce for harvesting small. They took for ever to appear, a good % germinated. About a month ago, one side of the pot went bald. Then...

Re: Germination rates
a lot of mine came up, but because it has not stopped raining, they have dwindled to one solitary companion spring onion. The slugs have taken the rest.

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
We’ve built a new potting bench, it’s a beast! I’ve also pricked out lemon basil and tagetes today and spotted the blue tit popping in and out of the little box we built and put up a couple of years ago. I’m sure I heard the chicks squeaking for caterpillars!

Re: Breast cancer charity collection.
That is awful Westi. I remember when they used to be grateful for donations, now it seems nothing is good enough. Also, the prices they charge are ridiculous. I wish they'd stop trying to be boutiques and just sell on good clean clothes at reasonable prices. M good friend volunteers at one in Salisb...

Re: Breast cancer charity collection.
I dropped off 3 bags at a local (not my usual) charity shop last week, and got the 3rd degree about what was in there. The reason I no longer drop off at the usual one, is that they became really fussy and snooty, now I feel like I can't drop anything anywhere, they made me feel embarrassed and like...

Re: Should I trim the plum?
my thoughts are that these tiny branches will probably grow more leaves to replace the burnt ones, which will fall off naturally. Hopefully.
