round about this area the carrot crop is sometimes left in the ground, covered with black polethene and coverd with straw to over winter or take up mid winter(large carrot processing establishment nearby), has enybody tried this on deep beds? i presume the farmers must spray for slugs an the like be...

just pre-germinated some sweet pea seeds on kitchen paper in a clear plastic box, i will be doing the same with my parsnip seeds a bit later, this enables me to sow in to pots, root trainers etc individually as required.

I do not seal the bottom of the loo roll but put them in either mushroom containers, multi-bite sized bakery snack containers or butter type spred containers,this holds the water and contains the loo rolls in small enough numbers to sow small batches of seeds

Potato Planting

I have three variertys of potato chitting, pink fir apple, duke of york and arron pilot, can i plant out all three under plastic to get early crops of each :?: I know that PFA is a late/main crop but wold starting som of in the round at this time give me early crops :?:

What is the best use of leaf mold, I have used it in the bottom of my potato trenches and also the bean trench, coud I use some as a mulch but for which vegetable :?:

Paper Pots

I have not tried paper pots but do use toilet roll inners, :shock: held in margerine type containers these seem to hold ther shape before the need to plant and rot down in the soil

hi all

we had an infestation of moles when a developer built housing behind us, but our valiant cat deliverd all the moes to our doorstep wen tey decided to enter our garden, unfortunatly he is now residing in cat heaven.
