I agree Lizzie. I spent a lot of money doing the weekly shop at Tesco yesterday (and I mean a LOT of money!) I was shocked by the quality, especially the fruit and veg - the grapes were brown and the brocolli was yellow. Also, anything on special offer was sold out. I popped into my local farm shop ...

Sorry for the delay replying, I must have missed these posts somehow. The creatures in question were curled up in holes in the potatoes. When I saw them they twisted and turned rapidly. I'm afraid I threw them in the bin without looking too closely. They definately had legs at the top end, although ...

Mine is a bit similar to Primrose's, but we have it as a side dish, usually with gammon. I've been making it so long, I'm not sure of quantities, but I'll do my best. One head of brocolli, parboiled and drained, placed in a layer in a shallow dish. Mix one small tub of half fat creme fraiche with a ...

Having now managed to google wireworms (I was typing 2 separate words and getting nothing!) I'm now not sure that they are wireworms at all. I'm sure they had legs. Has anyone got any ideas? The information I found on wireworms suggested that they are a problem on land which was previously inder gra...

Wire worms
I have dug up my first new potatoes, which is good, except some had holes in, and when I cut them up I found small orange worms in them. (Very wriggly.) Are these wire worms, as I've never had them before? If so, what can I do about them, as I have 3 rows of potatoes, and I'd like to eat some of the...

Am I doing it wrong?
I am a bit cross! I have been working hard at my allotment for a few years now, and this year i am determined not to be beaten by weeds! I work and have a young family, nd my husband is not interested in gardening, so keeping the allotment up to scratch is an uphill struggle. The plot next to mine h...

I live in a small village near Cirencester, and it is beautiful. My husband is from Derbyshire, and I'm from North Yorkshire, and we both miss real hills. It's very 'pretty' around here, if you know what I mean! When we lived in Lancashire, we bought a house in a village near Kirkham instead of Pend...
