Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

As I understand it, E10 fuel will only be the lower 95 octane petrol, higher octane (mostly 99) will continue to be E5. Look on the pump label to see f your local supply is E5 or E10.
I wouldn't pay much attention to general advice but contact the manufacturer, asking directly about your model.

Re: Composting questions

Hi Primrose Like yours, these are located with a fence to the south, beyond that a footpath then tall trees, so certainly shady (and less attractive as spots for plants). We try to shred (my Ebay bargain £25 shredder is at end of life really) as much as we can, woodier stuff goes on the paths predom...

Composting questions

Should I not mix the gardening compost into pots? PXL_20210802_101335144[1].jpg All weedy, I'm not even sure which is the plant we are trying to grow now. Or is our compost not getting hot enough? Here are our bins. Four of them PXL_20210802_101348789[1].jpg I have since emptied one of these into th...

Meanwhile, the sperical courgettes we planted are growing. I had thought they might not grow so large!

Hi Westi
I'm sorry I don't know the origin of the trough but here are some pictures of it.

Re: Is this mosaic virus or something else?

Thank you, we ripped them up & will burn them. I didn't think the weather had been appropriate for early blight.
The tomatoes in the adjacent greenhouse are fine (where is the wood!)

Re: Sorry I have been AWOL

Monika, yes I tried that last year which seemed to be no better than the previous year when sown directly but will have to try again next year. The direct contact with water, missing in that cold dry April, will make a difference.

Sorry I have been AWOL

But there is nothing to worry about, I have just been busy with the Lotus Seven Club and other bits of life. I have not been affected or inconvenienced much by lockdown - last year was really good. I did get a little despondant about the weather early in the year. April was so cold, May so wet. So w...

Re: Early Spring Bits and Bobs

The merest attempt to rain over the past few days.
I'm not sure if any of the seeds we planted have taken.
We will get something growing in the end but do wonder when & what.

Re: Early Spring Bits and Bobs

Hi all I'm sorry I dropped out of sight over the winter. It was so wet, so cold, I wasn't really doing much on the 'lottie. The good news is that there was always something to harvest, even if it was hardly a balanced diet! Leeks, parsnips, beetroot, spinach. Now, after putting several things in, th...

My experiment this year is salsify. I'm a little sceptical but now have the space to experiment.

Re: Solar Power?

Westi: How about looking at this? https://www.optimate.co.uk/products?tag=Solar You will need a leisure battery (not a car starter battery) and you might look at https://www.tayna.co.uk/ , who get good reviews for their service. One car is in a council rented lock-up garage and I keep it in an air-b...
