tomatoe plants

My alicante tomatoe plants are all forked at the butt. Both stems are growing healthy but is this normal for this variety

Peter, thanks for reply. just heard that Lumper was the common variety in Ireland before the famine and wanted to try them out of curiosity more than anything.

Pricking out seedlings

I recently planted parsley seeds and they are now ready for planting on, should I plant them 1 seedling to a pot or a couple to a pot to give a better bunch

The wet year didnt do us any favour here either. I had a good crop of Stutgarter onions sown from sets but they kept very poorly which I can only put down wet summer. My biggest heartbreak was my beautiful crop of Kerrs Pinks which were first decimated by frost on May29th and then possibly the worst...

Thanks OH, just noticed time of your reply. Do you ever sleep? I am attempting to grow onions this year for the first time from seed and the variety I have chosen is........ Bedfordshire Champion. Here's hoping I can do your beautiful Bedfordshire justice in the center of Ireland.

Irish Growers

Can anyone tell me how close growing conditions in central Ireland would be to those in central England. I read the mag every month and wonder is it ok to assume similar growing times etc.

growing rhubarb

What is the best way to plant rhubarb stools.Do I need to make a ridge or can they be planted straight into the ground. They already have stalks starting to grow so how deep can I plant them .Timperally [which I most likely have spelt wrong] Early is the variety.

I wish I had a garden dry enough to dig Bren.My garden will need at least 2 weeks good weather before I can get to it ,2 days good weather are hard come by at the min.

potatoe sprays

I know its early in the year to be asking thjs question but does anyone know the formula for blight spray which incorporated blue stone and washing soda?Does anyone still use it? Are there any pros or cons in using it instead of modern sprays?
