Those plastic recycling boxes don't last that long if they are left outside, they fade and go brittle quite quickly.
Of course I do realise there are many different types and makes, but this in my experience.

Garlic white rot

Very unhappy here, discovered what looks very much like white rot on my garlic, its affected about half the crop, all close to one another. It leaves me with a bit of a problem this year. Its at the end of a 2 year old bed. The bed is 5 metres long, at the other end to the garlic is spring onions a...

Greenhouse base and sleepers

I've already bought a 10x6 greenhouse and am now puzzling over the base. After long discussions and mulling it over I've come to the conclusion that railway sleepers would be best for me. I have read through all the threads I could find re bases. So, I was planning on using new oak sleepers, which c...

Thankyou, gives me something to think about. Yes the soil where the sweetcorn is to grow should be very fertile this year, I was sort of thinking along the three sisters lines, but trying to get some insect attracting flowers in there as well, maybe I would be better off sowing some poached egg plan...

bush peas for youngster

Can you advise of a small bush pea, one which doesn't need much support would be perfect, which would taste really sweet for my daughter to grow. She would be eating them all straight out of the pod I should think, so the one that tastes the best raw would be better. I'm trying to get her interested...

Nasturtium under sweetcorn

Morning

As the title says, I have this idea of planting nasturtiums under sweetcorn, I haven't really got enough space for them elsewhere, just wondered if you thought that would be ok?
Also is it possible to grow them up bean and pea frames? Good idea or not.

I also have a question about sprouting parsnips. I have sprouted some on some paper as advised but due to other things to do haven't got round to planting them, now its bucketing it down outside, so I was going to put them in paper pots today. Question is, some of the roots on the seeds are getting ...

It was because they were bought in plants and newly planted that I was worried. I've done my own no problem before, but I didn't know the conditions these had had, before they came to me.

Cover up strawberries?

Hi I have planted two lots of bought in strawberries, one a week ago and the other lot two weeks ago. Where I am it looks like being about -2 tonight with maybe a bit of a snow shower. Do you think its needed to cover up the beds? I've only got some black plastic, so it would have to come off in the...

I've tried one of these plants, my overriding memory is of my cat having a "toilet" right next to it, in a raised bed  so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much.
