It must be down to my watering then?

Re: Woolly tomatoes

I've got 3 tomatoes per growbag, with each plant sunk into a large plantpot on top. Perhaps too many I think.

Woolly tomatoes

Any ideas why my greenhouse tomatoes (Alicante and Gardeners Delight) have turned out rather woolly. They taste ok. I thought I'd been careful not to over-water or under-water too and I feed them once a week. They are grown in growbags. If under-watering is the problem, is it too late to give extra ...

Thinning tomato plant leaves

My greenhouse tomato plants are healthy and growing really well with a good amount of tomatoes ready to ripen, and more to come. But as I've grown three plants per growbag, the foliage is quite dense and shading many of the trusses. I've trimmed some of the lower leaves and need to create more light...

Re: Swiss chard and courgette cannelloni

Ooh, that really does sound delicious. I will be trying that for one of our veggie meals this week. I haven't grown any chard this time. Is it too late to sow some?

Quality compost?

Could anyone recommend a proper quality compost available to buy in preferably bulk bag size that comes somewhere near to the quality of real, proper homemade stuff? Currently I don't produce anywhere near enough for our requirements and I find the usual bagged compost from garden centres pretty use...

Re: Planting brassicas

My planting area was lawn up until 4 days ago, and although compact, it's been lightly forked over just enough to make planting easy. I'll be adding a dose of blood fish and bone and hope that will keep the broccoli and cauliflower happy.

Re: Planting brassicas

Thank you Geoff for the information. Having a reference book would seem a good idea too.

Planting brassicas

I've been given some cauliflower and broccoli plants and I'll be planting them up next week. Before planting I was going to lightly fork in either some chicken manure pellets or blood, fish and bone. Which of those would be suitable (or not) for brassicas as my patch hasn't been manured for some time?

Re: Potato blight??

Stephen, that's obviously where I've gone wrong. I have used the spray gun on my hose and given them a good soaking, all over! I've not yet checked to see if the potatoes are ready, but I'm thinking any time soon. Is there anything I can do to resolve the problem?

Potato blight??

Is this the dreaded blight? Do I need to cut the foliage off? They're first earlies grown in potato bags.

Greenhouse shade netting

Anyone able to give me some advice about greenhouse shading please? Does it work better to have just one ‘sheet’ of netting draped over the entire roof; or, cut several strips with longer lengths situated over the opening window; or some other method? What is the best way of fixing it down so that i...

Re: End of Spring Bits and Bobs.

Still windy here too. Delayed some of my planting out over the past few weeks because of the cold nights and very hot days, and over the weekend because of the windy conditions. Have lots of runner beans desperate for planting and the courgettes won't last much longer in their pots. I also have a lo...
