Garlic

Can you help?

I recently harvetested my garlic and whilst it tastes good, the bulbs/heads were 'open' and not tight as you would expect.

Any ideas what may have caused this?

Thanks for all your replies, very helpful. I think they must be chafer grubs as we did have lots of adult chafers flying around in the Summer. Not having seen the grubs before, I didn't put the two together!

Unidentified Grubs in Compost

I have found a large number of grubs in my compost. They are white with orange coloured "heads". They are quite fat and about an inch long. I took some pictures but haven't quite worked out where I can put them so that I can put an image tag in Does anyone have any ideas what they might be...
