Re: Bits and Bobs No7

Your right Oldherbaceous, definitely need more than one. When we had our new phone line connected the BT chap came and did a sterling job.. he switched us on and switched our next door neighbours off. Took weeks to get it sorted out for them!

Re: Bits and Bobs No7

Hello folks, Hope the phone and broadband are fixed for you Chantal and good to hear your feeling pretty jolly OH, especially as it is 'Blue Monday'. Must admit that I am in a pretty jolly mood too, after a weekend spent almost entirely in the garden with Mrs Magic Beans! So much for the terrible we...

Re: Did you get what you wanted for Christmas?

Hello there one and all.. I trust we all had a good Christmas with much fun and laughter (my pirate impression with my niece and nephew seems to have gone down quite a treat, and no jibes about the dodgy limp or rather too large newspaper hat!) Well I awoke Christmas morning to find my stocking fill...

Re: MERRY XMAS

Why thank you kind folk for the Christmas Cheer and may I return the good wishes for this festive season and the coming New Year. Must admit I have made out my list for Santa and it is full and burgeoning with Garden related wishes (can't fit anything else indoors and to be honest would prefer a few...

Re: Does the site have a techie problem, or is it me?

Hello Primrose,

The guys have been working on updating the KG forum so that it is more secure and so the board was disabled for a while to allow the work and checking to be done.

So rest assured it is not your computer.

Looks as if Magic Beans is still sleeping of that extra food that was eaten. Hello again one and all... you are quite right Oldherbaceous Sir. Much muld wine and fine fayre was consumed among the many craft stalls and entertainment of the market. The organisers had listened to the advice they gathe...

Had not even thought of grafted rootstock. I really do have a lot to learn about this gardening lark. Thanks Oldherbacious.

My advice would be to plant low or dwarf stock, unless you're in your 20's. That way you'll be able to reach future crops without a ladder or a spell in hospital. Good advice Tigger... in my early thirties and reasonably safe teetering on a ladder. But dwarf varieties would ensure that the trees wo...

Re: Tea Bags? !

Hello skinny,

My Nana has sworn by cold tea to revive house plants and I have to say I have used this advice to great effect.

As for the acidity I will leave that to those of a more informed nature...

Thinking of starting a mini-orchard...

Hello again oh oracles of the Kitchen Garden... I've just seen a set of three fruit trees on the Kitchen Garden Shop and it has got me thinking. With the intended vegetable plot at the bottom of the garden comes the opportunity to plant a few fruit trees (something I have wanted to do for quite some...

Lincoln Christmas Market

Hello one and all and seasons greetings... just wondering if anyone will be making the trek to the Lincoln Christmas Market this year??

We intend to be up there on Saturday enjoying the atmospheric Christmas cheer around the old part of town up Steep Hill...

... so if you have a patch in a nice sunny spot, leave a few nettles standing for the caterpillars! Hi Monika, Now there is an interesting fact I did not know. Rest assured that the other side of the fence at the bottom of the garden is a large field that has a strip about ten metres deep of 'set-a...

I'll tell you what guys you are all a veritable mine of information. I'm looking forward to the new year and my first season of growing vegetables for the kitchen. Johnboy you have a very good point of trying to be as organic as possible from the start. The main challenge are the nettles. They domin...

Hello there, sounds like a wonderful challenge to have, trying to find space for yet more crops. I am just starting out with growing my own vegetables etc and once I have the area clear of nettles I intend to put in four beds. Now my question is with four beds what should occupy each and in what ord...
