Clogs
I have to say I have been disappointed with the selection of clogs in the UK. When in America, I had bought some via mailorder from a Vermont firm which gets them from Germany. So when my first red pair were starting to fall apart last year, I bought another from the same Vermont firm, but via Web t...

I grow a self-blanching variety nearly every year and it grows well here in S'oxon. Plant in a block, and use 8-inch boards along the four outsides to shade. Water well every now and then. I tried a trench variety a few years ago and the slugs ate it faster than it could grow! Self-blanching isn't a...

Gourds
I've grown gourds on and off for years, and I've not known them to have an unpleasant aroma! Maybe the compost is stale. Try repotting in sweeter fresher compost and in a bigger pot. Have you been watering with old rainwater or other source of standing water perhaps? Most gourds are trailing varieti...

Glad to hear it all went so well. The food sounds wonderful. I loved the comment about the OH/spouses not really sure what to make of you gardening lot! My OH helps me on the allotment, but he does think I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to all the sowing and planting I do - and talking about it on ...

Gourds
Hi, If you bought your packet of Jim Jams at Thompson & Morgan, you might find that, from the picture on the packet, what you have are all actually edible squashes and pumpkins. My T&M packet of Jim Jams made me laugh... every fruit on the packet was either a variety of squash or pumpkin. As...

Hello everyone...
I've been a might bit busy, and been back to the States on the last 2 long weekends (business and family stuff), so am way behind in transplanting and sowing seeds, so looks like I'll not make Malvern this year. I haven't even sown my squashes (buttercup, of course) and pumpkins, although cucumbers ...

I have ordered some, and will try them for the first time this year. At Thanksgiving, I usually buy a small case from the green grocer (15-16 pounds) so I thought I'd try to grow them this year. Thanks for the warning about the cold. I serve them as 'candied sweet potatoes' - parboil, and bake cover...

Tomatoes!
I've just sown my tomato seeds for the season (for those who are new or can't remember, I grow them for sale to passersby and villagers along with lots of other veg and bedding). All are in 60-cell modules (the size of a regular seed tray; module trays from a nearby nursery at 10p each!) and either ...
