Re: Encouraging newcomers
A brief glossary is a good idea Colin. We currently try to explain difficult/unfamiliar terms in brackets in the features themselves as we don't always have space in the mag for a full glossary and I worry that it could be a bit boring for folks who are familiar with the terms if we were to overdo i...

The great GM debate
Hi Folks The topic for debate in our Over The garden Fence feature this month is genetically modified foods. If they became available for use on your plot would you grow them if they brought advantages such as pest resistance or higher yields? Would you refuse to use them under any circumstances? Wo...

Who dares wins?
Hi Folks This month (Feb issue) the topic of our Over The Garden Fence feature by Edwin Oxlade and Bob Sherman is 'when to start sowing'. The fellas are discussing the pros and cons of early sowing in the spring and I wondered what your advice would be to readers who are perhaps growing fruit and ve...

Re: Keeping our cool
Thanks Compo, and thanks to all who have responded so far. I know we are all of the same mind really and it's only a very minor hiccup that I felt bound to respond to. It's so hard not to react strongly when the topic is something you care passionately about, but I think your advice is perfect Compo...

Keeping our cool
Hi Folks While trawling the forum a few comments caught my attention. They were to the effect that some members are feeling a little worried that certain threads are becoming a little too 'political' and heavy. As a result they are being deterred from joining in. There are not many such comments, bu...

Re: July editon competiton - Eazitools
Hi Toffeeman Really sorry to learn of the difficulty you have experienced in obtaining your prize and even more regretful for the problems experienced in resolving the issue. It always sounds like a cop out I know but we have genuinely had problems with staff illness recently. I know that the person...

Re: Steve Ott’s Green Reality Check
Hi guys and girls. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond - sidetracked as usual! I've been watching your debate and have been heartened by the comments. Commonsense can prevail! I think what gets me down is not so much whether organic methods are right or wrong - I think ultimately we need to tak...

Re: Lettuce - Winter Density & Lambs lettuce
Hi Piglet
Yes your first one will be lamb's lettuce, your second packet lettuce 'Winter Density'.
Since my last posting I've also been told by the seed company that code 53426/U (which some of you have on your packets) is also lamb's lettuce.
Hope that helps.

Re: K.G. mag's Herb booklet
Hi Guys Regarding the herb oils and covering, I've just repeated what was passed down to me. I used to watch my grandmother making herb oils and other herbal potions and have copied her methods. We have survived to tell the tale, however I do agree with Plumpudding that you should take great care wh...
