Re: New swapping produce website

I hadn't heard of anything like it before last night. It's a great idea! I've already had an offer of a swap!

New swapping produce website

Hi all

I was listening to Chris Evans on Radio 2 this evening and they did an interview with a lady who has set up www.vegswap.co.uk

It seems pretty good and you can swap anything from fresh produce to jams/chutneys etc. I think it's a fab idea and have signed up.

I'm also having a problem with the taste of my potatoes. We've had some Rocket which were lovely, but the Kestrel leave a burning sensation in the mouth. Having searched on the net, I'm sure it must be increased levels of the toxic substance solanine. I didn't earth up hugely, so a few of the potato...

I've searched the net and am fairly certain it is leek moth. Here is a link that shows it m From the searches I've done I can't find any advice except to cover the plants as seedlings to stop the adult laying on them. Commercial growers have access to chemical treatment, but home growers don't. I th...

Leek moth

I have a feeling this is not my year! I discovered Early Blight on my potatoes yesterday and now I've found leek moth larvae on my garlic. The old leaves are firm but have streaks of orange and the new leaves are very squishy. I've cut off all the affected leaves and I don't think they have done any...

Aaahhhhh! Early blight on potatoes

Hi Just had a wander down the garden and noticed a few of my potato plants have dark spots on the lower leaves. I've had a search on the net and am fairly certain that it's early blight . Any suggestions as to how to control it? I try to be as organic as possible so don't like the idea of using chem...

I must admit, I am sceptical. However, given I have the book, I will try to use some of the advice and see if it makes any difference. But I'm not going to get stressed out if I miss the 'correct' time for planting/harvesting! :D

Planting by the moon

I received a copy of a 'planting by the moon' book for Christmas and am trying to keep an open mind about it.

Does anyone have any experience on using these sorts of theories? Do they actually work?!!

Thanks

Thanks for all your suggestions. I've sectioned off an area near to the main place they were using and am encouraging them to use that.

It's not too bad at the moment as I haven't got a lot growing, but I might try the twig/wire flower idea when I start sowing!

I'd rather they didn't use anyone's garden and if they have to, then I'd prefer it to be mine. I'd assumed that if they were trained to use the tray and had never experienced outside toileting, then they would continue to use it. I haven't tried putting the tray outside as I would probably forget to...

Cat's using garden for a toilet

Hi We have two 6 month old kittens who have recently been allowed outdoors. Whilst indoors, they happily used the litter trays we provided, but have now decided that they would rather use my veg patch. They seem to have chosen one area which makes it easyish to clean, but obviously I'd rather they u...

Hi

Sometimes homemade jam can become too sweet due to too long boiling time. I encountered this last year when I made Tayberry jam.
