Yield from Alderman peas

Hi all Long time since I posted on here. So much life, so little time! Does anyone grow Alderman peas? They are the tall ones. I've just finished harvesting the last of mine and taken the plants down. They have given me about 500g of shelled peas per 1 metre double row. In other words, each metre of...

Hi John

Just dug it up.

Very interesting.

The roots look fine, but the stalk is really slimy and repulsive smelling.

Any ideas?

Cauliflower suddenly wilting.

This is cauliflower "Galleon." It's wilted like this in the last 3 hours!!. The ones each side of it are fine at the moment. Any ideas? Photobucket only seems to have loaded 1/2 the picture. Sorry, don't know what to do about that!! You'll get the idea, though, hopefully. http://i106.photo...

Hello Old Herbaceous Well, that's really cheered me up!! This is the first time I've grown Alderman. My wife and I reckon they are probably the best tasting peas we've ever had. It would be a shame to have to give up on them just as they are beginning to crop. Is this variety particularly sensitive ...

Downy mildew on peas

Hi all

My peas are suffering from downy mildew.

They are an old variety, Alderman, which grow 2 metres tall.

Does anyone have any ideas, please?

Thanks.

White spots on onion, tomato and brassica leaves

Hi all This is a new one on me. White spots on leaves. It's appeared fairly quickly, and seems to be getting worse. It's not rust, and the spots won't rub off, so I'm assuming it isn't a mould. Any ideas? Here's a picture of some onion leaves. It's also on some nasturtiums which have sprung up in th...

Mine are just Aaron Pilot.

They produce good earlies, and stay in the ground to give main crops.

You will all probably laugh at me now, but every year I intend to try something different then get cold feet at the last minute in case they don't work.

Sorry.

Howdy When I harvest my Asparagus I use the method Bob Flowerdew suggested. Hold the stalks about a third of the way down and bend them. They will then snap off at the juicy/woody junction. Ignore all the stuff about steaming and using fancy Asparagus cookers! Take a large saucepan and cut the stems...

Ah, squirrels!!

We have some here, so perhaps it's them.

That's OK, if it is squirrels. I was worried it was some weird potato weevil or other pest which would hit all the plants.

If it's squirrels they'll probably give up soon.

Hi all

Here's a link to a picture of another potato haulm which got sliced last night.

Someone must have an answer, surely?

BTW, how do I get pictures on here, please?

Thanks.

Hello david71

Are they still in pots, or did you put them out in the veg patch before they started to go brown?

How long were they Ok for?

Potato haulms being cut through

Hello all The haulms on my Arran Pilot potatoes are being cut through by something. At first I thought the cats were snapping them off, but potato stalks are really pretty bendy. About 50% of the 20 or so plants have now been affected. So far, it's just 1 or 2 stalks per plant, but the rate of damag...
