Hi WishIWas Parsnips are tricky as you only get a limited window to sow them in. Carrots and onions are easier, especially if you grow shallots and Japanese onions as well. The Japanese bunching onions can be pulled as spring onions or left to swell so are very useful. Also look out for Welsh onions...

My husband had a few run-ins with his parents in his youth. After coming home with a tattoo that sent the family into a complete riot, his dad told him - never mind son. I was a bit of a rebel in my younger days. I even wore yellow socks So try odd socks and chuck in a yellow one now and again if yo...

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope you all have had to fight through the cards, choccies and flowers to get the the PC today

Some hope.....No. 1 husband reckons it's all commercial hogwash and refuses to be suckered into it all. However, he has just gone to the shop to buy a bottle of vino for me, so can't complain

Dear OH - please do not be alarmed. I do only have 1 husband, but I just like to keep him on his toes The 8th wonder construction was postponed due to me getting side tracked by digging the allotment. You know when you think I'll just do that little bit more...and that bit....and that bit. Needless ...

Probably not thinking about it - I have no doubt you would find a way to haunt the place & cause trouble Serves me right for boasting, but I am not the world's best DIY-er (my husband visibly turns pale when he sees me making off with his drill) and a compost bin was quite an achievement Thinkin...

Phew - drove past our site tonight and the bins are still standing :D

Think I may have pre-cooked rhubarb this year though

Luckily as the bolt deflected, it ploughed a furrow across the plot, so that's my potato trench sorted

Hello Joy - welcome aboard. I know you have said an allotment may be a bit much for you, but it worth checking whether your local sites have a site shed. Quite often these are run by the local horticultural society and you don't have to have a plot to buy stuff there. Generally memebership of the so...

Not that bad no, but uncontrollable .......er I would say so Wild blowy weather today - we just has a massive clap of thunder here and now the rain is absolutely lashing against the window. I was hoping it would stay a bit drier so I could get some digging done (and admire my compost bins a bit more)
