Frosty Taters

For one reason and another I did not get chance to dig up all of my potatoes before the really cold weather set in. Will they still be alright?

Hi All, Been reading all the postings recently with interest. I have been trying this for myself this year for the first time, using Nick Kollerstroms system, mainly because I liked the idea. Must admit, I don't think I have any greater or lesser success than I had last year, when I just planted as ...

How is it going?

Alison, just thought I would check in to see how your moon planting is going. Aside from the inconvenience over the last couple of months of having the wrong days falling on a weekend when I have most of my free time, I am finding it to be working quite well. Have had excellent germination and the p...

Ants

Glad I logged on today! I was wondering whether I should do about the three ants nests I have in one bed on my allotment, not to mention the other two I have found in other beds. Didn't really want to do anything too nasty to them, as they didn't cause a problem last year, just a bit concerned about...

Find I am having a similar problem with it working full time as well, it does make it very difficult to fit in, but hoping after this weekend it might be a bit easier with the nights a bit lighter. Also after having actually read the introduction to the Nick K book rather than just going to the cale...

Sowing by the Moon

I have just got the Nick Kollerstrom book as well and it has totally confused me I originally downloaded a lunar calendar from a website called ommas aarden and was working from that, but now this book has thrown everything out! Any ideas which one would be best to follow or I am going to have to be...

Planting by the Moon

I am trying this for the first time this year as well, as I have heard it does improve yields etc. Apparently it is all to do with the pull of the moon on the water table. However, my chart says this week isn't so good for planting anything, what chart are you using? I have a book on order too by Ni...

Seed Potatoes

I bought seed potatoes from a stall in the local market, which sells by the weight, so you can have as many or as few seeds as you want. The average price was £1.20 per kilo. With the Pentland Javelin I got around 21 seed potatoes in the kilo for £1, which I think compares very favourably to prices ...

Thanks for that. I think I have decided to leave the beans out on my first go and just put some squashes in and see how that goes. The general concensus definitely seems to be that the beans are the problem.

I'm trying Alan, although I'm afraid I'm not actually Welsh! Although do have some Welsh blood in me! I do agree we need more people growing veg though and I am currently trying to do something about that on the allotment site I have a plot on by becoming site manager. Currently I think there are on...

Three Sisters

Thanks for that Alan. I have a nice square block on my allotment set aside for the sweetcorn, but thought I might try a few plants in the bed where I was going to put my beans, just as an experiment. Just liked the idea of the plants using & helping each other out more than anything :)
