A total ban on bonfires on our allotment, its a private site with the motor way very close and houses.
Its the council that banned the fires and there's a hefty fine on the club if anyone lights a fire.
There' a council tip close by to get rid of rubbish.

Peter I feel jealous you having all those squashes, we love them roasted with the Sunday joint in a casserole or mashed with potatoes, I have grown them every year and saved my own seed and never any problem till this year, no squashes I ended up with courgettes and marrows which we don't like.

Storing carrots
Some time ago someone on this forum suggested storing root vegetables in compost, I dug out 5 lbs. of carrots yesterday before they got too big, I don't want to use all of them right away so put them in a box with compost do I keep the compost dry or should it be damp?

We picked the last of the peas and broad beans today, there was lots and lots of ladybirds on them but still some of the broad beans had a lot of blackfly on them.

Hi Blackbob they were planted on the 10th May, the cabbages have started to heart up and the sprouts are quiet sturdy, yes I have watered them from the top but if it rained it would be from the top. OH as you said a lot of grey aphids on the curled leaves, not too many I did squash them with gloved ...

White spots/patches on cabbage
My cabbages and sprouts are growing well, till today I noticed white spots/patches on both of them and some leaves are curling in what could the cause be? the cabbages are Golden Acre Primo1 and the sprouts Brenden F1, I grow both cabbage and sprouts every without any trouble. .
