Re: Cylinder mowing tips wanted

Well. I've managed to cut it this morning before the rain I've now got and it cut quite well. Just the longer "stringy" bits of grass laid down and didn't cut. The plan now is: use a rotary on it next time to even things up, adjust the blades according to the handbook, not let the grass ge...

Re: Cylinder mowing tips wanted

Thanks, folks.

If I can get it done this week I'll give the cylinder a go, if it has to wait much longer I'll have to drag my rotary up the road to his place again :)

thanks again

Cylinder mowing tips wanted

Hello Long time since I last posted anything but it looks as though everyone's still here. I'm a rotary mower man but it looks as though I'll be looking after an elderly neibour's lawn this summer with his cylinder machine. I guess the grass will need to be properly dry to cut well? How much grass c...

Re: Any Sweet Pepper growing tips?

Hello, as promised back in June, a progress report My better two plants have four each rather small but hopefully usable fruits, the third is stuck on one. I think considering that, acording to my local newspaper, my area has had the coolest Summer months for nearly 20 years this isn't doing to badl...

Re: Any Sweet Pepper growing tips?

Thanks Primrose. I'll hang onto what's left in the packet. I found them slow too, I was just starting to think nothing was going to happen when they showed some signs of life but the delay was probably as well considering the mixed spring we have had here. [NB] I'll check on the variety, I can't rem...

Re: Any Sweet Pepper growing tips?

Thank you all!! It looks as though I'm on the right track. I potted on the plants today into 5 inch pot to keep them growing steadyly. They have rooted well and are looking sturdyer for a few warmer days and nights. One think I just thought of. How well does the seed store? I have enough for next ye...

Any Sweet Pepper growing tips?

Hello Most years I like to try growing something new to me and, having got a trial packet, I'm trying Sweet Peppers. I started a bit late, I think, but I am in North Yorkshire so that might be for the best. I now have three plants about 4-5 inches high growing in 3 inch pots in my greenhouse. They a...

Opinions wanted on Tom varieties

Hello It's time to be thinking about what varieties to try next year. For a few years now I have done well here in Yorkshire with Tomato "Matina". This is/was a medium fruited, vigorous, early outdoor type but it seems to have dissapeared from the catalogues so I am looking for a replacmen...

Re: Wolf-Garten Tools

Hello Haggis If you can strech to some Felco secateurs go for it. I got some last year (as a gift too) and they realy don't compare to the cheapies -- light to handle (makes a bigger differance than you'd think) and will cut anythink i've tried. All the parts eg. blades, springs etc are available as...

Looking for Coco Shell mulch

Hello Some years ago I used a mulch product made from Coco Shells from the chocolate industry and found it better than bark as it doesn't blow about or attract cats. Needing some this season for some new planting I find it has become very hard to obtain -- my local garden centres don't stock it and ...
