Hi everyone I've been away for ages and still don't have much time to catch up, but hello to the regulars - and friendly newbies of course! And congratulations to Chantal & Tigger on their recent appointments. Anyway, on with my question Is anybody else having problems receiving their subscribed...

Hi

Yellow notes with pens (instead of white) show a thread with contributions you haven't read yet. I'm not sure I've seen any of them move though!

No it's not just you Pigletwillie I bought some "Swift" seed potatoes last weekend after dithering for about half an hour over the choice - now I am glued to every mention of "Swift" to see if I did the Right Thing - and it seems the jury's still out! But I may try some now in po...

Hi

You can get them on e-bay (new) much cheaper than elsewhere - approx £8 for one set or £15 for 2 including postage.

cheap stores

Hi Carole, yes you are missing out - just as I also do on the Isle of Man as sadly we don't have any of those stores. Which means when we do visit the UK I make a beeline for: Wilko (Wilkinsons) for lots of gardening things, esp equipment, bulbs, onion sets, shrubs (eg got a nice azalea last year fo...

Thanks Mr Chilli Holmes! If I ever get as far as November with my chillies I'd like to give your method a go. But as I speak they are gradually dying further and further back - I think an inch is too short even for bonsai!! I don't think they got enough light or heat. Ah well, maybe next year I'll g...

attn Tigger re ginger

Hi Tigger

Do you grow your own ginger? If so, would you mind making a new posting to say how you do it and any problems you've had.

Thanks very much
(Lisa, sorry for hijacking your posting!)

Hi I too would recommend Pink Fir Apple, though some say it's overrated. It's a maincrop but looks, cooks and tastes like a new potato, and stores extremely well (not sprouting as readily as others). I served some to enthusiastic guests last night for dinner - taties dug up in September, still in pe...

Hi

I'm pretty sure they're dead but I'll hold off emptying them out until spring to see if there are any signs of new life. I'm not optimistic though!

Thanks for the reply

Thanks Carole, I'll go out and put some on now.

I really would recommend making the time to go and collect some if you can - my garden was heavy clay when I inherited it just over a year ago but large quantities of seaweed have made the world of difference already!

Hello

Yes, hello from me too! This forum is brilliant (well the old one was, I'm sure this will be too when I get the hang of it!). Most people are really friendly and helpful and you can ask anything you want and usually there is someone out there who will know the answer. There are some good-looking rec...

reduced magazine subscription

Hi

Only just got back to the forum after a while away.

Can I still take advantage of this offer, or has the deadline passed? I can't find it mentioned anywhere else.

Thanks

overwintering chillies

I was trying to overwinter some chillies but the plants have just gone all droopy and died. Is this likely to be not enough light or not enough heat? (I can rectify one problem next year but not the other!)
