Re: Rotting sprout tops
Hi there.
I am not sure what the cause could be for rotting sprout tops, I know they deteriorate sometimes after frost and wet weather.
My problem is black spots on the sprouts and the foliage, some sprouts have the black 'slime' inside when the outer skin is removed. Any clues?

Leaky birdbath
I guess you could try to convince the birds to sit under the birdbath to get a shower rather than a bath to help save water!!!. OR try a watergarden suppliers for a product called 'pondseal' which you apply with a paintbrush, stone colour or swimming pool blue there may be other colours now as i hav...

MOBILE PHONE ANTICS
we once buried a mobile phone belonging to a colleage in a polythene bag within the garden we were working in. They are not easy to locate in this situation in spite of calling it many times to wind him up!.

ROTARY MOWER DECKWASH KIT
I used this method on a Bolens ride on many years ago, it made an excellent job of covering the surrounding area with soggy grass cuttings and green juice. I recommend deck washing as i have just had to fork out over a thousand quid to replace a rust ravaged deck on my Iseki SG13 ride on. I should k...

Regarding couch grass eradication and rotavation, I think Landie57 has the better type of rotary cultivator for couch removal. The Simar rototiller is fitted with spring tines, which seem to hook out strands of couch and leave most of them on the surface, unlike the Howard type of L blade which does...

Hi johnboy I am aware of all the things that you mention , I was just being silly. I agree that roundup is an excellent product but i have found glyphos to be just as good and more economical in use. Having said that, I feel that the less we use these chemicals the better. Rotavators have their uses...

Hi Compo I would always use the lower octane petrol as it is not necessary to use top grade. 25:1 mix is a widely used ratio, try it on that if it emits too much smoke from the exhaust cut back to say 30:1. You can use some of the modern synthetic 2 stroke oils which are 'low smoke' and can be used ...

I would say My Howard Gem rotavator is the beast that saves the most hard graft, it keeps going when other lesser machines have fallen by the wayside, OK it chops up couch grass and bindweed into small pieces which all take root and re-grow , but if you cultivate in dry weather these can be eradicat...
