Re: Broadforks

Hi, Who said I wanted to use one? I thought, though seeing some of the replies, that some might be interested. And not only that I only see him occasionally and he lives over 40 miles away which prompted me to see if any one on here used or heard of them. Still next time I know better. bye

Re: Broadforks

Hi, I am not talkingh about how to dig but what you use. I dig the ground but do not need to use lines, marks etc. I was looking at those who want to just loosen the soil and have a bad back. from what I can gather the the broadfork makes life easier. From what I have read it's like using one of tho...

Re: Broadforks

Hi Ya, I agree sally, we used them because of the balls on the end stopped the times digging into the tubers, I thought a potato fork had flat tines to allow less damage to lifting spuds. Ba a bit of drain to dig with it. Any way it seems obvious that like me no one has heard of or used a broadfork ...

Re: Broadforks

Hi Ya, Saw the picture and that what I call a scubbins, We use to use them on the farm to feed mangles to the cattle in winter to feed. A potato fork is similar. Broadforks

Hi Ya, I was talking to a mate who has an allotment and he mentioned he has a broadfork for turning his ground. I looked it up but only found one and it's like a beet fork with 5 tines wooden handles each end and it takes the strain off your back when turning the soil. Has any one got one? used one?...

Re: Carrot Fly

Hi Ya. Past experience has taught me to cover completely. They say carrot fly are not strong fliers but can smell carrot foliage at half a mile and follow the scent which is why they say pick in the evenings. I tried a barrier but the fly still got in and some one on our site last year got fly and t...

Re: Albert Bartlett seed potatos

Hi Ya, I for the first time bought Albert Bartlett seed potatoes from mail order at "yougarden", The packaging left a lot to be desired and they sent a replacement twice, the third time with out me asking. I found the seed spuds, no fault of the supplier, left a lot to be desired. The seed...

Re: Cutting holes in weed fabric

Hi Ya Robo, I tried using knives but they need to be very sharp. I even tried a blowtorch bit it was to fierce for the job of sealing the ends. I to am not that fastidious but do like it neat. I thought it may make the fabric last longer if the holes were sealed and maybe it could be used again. I h...

Cutting holes in weed fabric

Hi Ya, Just been reading an article in a magazine about weed fabric. I have some but am yet to use it. I have tried it but the holes kept fraying. This article said about using a bean tin heated up with a blow torch and cutting holes which are sealed up by the heat. 3", three inches seems to be...

Re: Report on my new Propane burner.

Hi Ya, I had a big problem with some weeds that came from who knows where last season. I have a paraffin burner that I bought a few years ago but have not been using. I am considering reusing it as I am loath to use weed killers. I believe you should only run over weeds with the flame lightly to dis...
