Hi Yes the years flash by. Here our stapped for cash council decided to leave the christmas lights up (but not on) for the whole year. And some of those incredibly decorated private houses have done the same. So we have a 365/24/7 year christmas on the high street and the estates. Scarey how some mi...

Creative uses for pallets

Hi Today I have had an unexpected delivery of over 30 wooden pallets outside my garden gate. Some will be used to replace the 4 compost bins but I'm looking for ideas as to how to us the others. Walkers Shortbread are building a new factory next to my garden. The site manager was really helpful this...

Hi Just got back onto the Forum after computer crash earlier in the year and log in problems. I think it's good to get a bit over half way on day one. The M6 is the route to take and I agree that Tebay services are excellent. For an overnight stay I would consider Penrith or the Lake District a few ...

Alan and JB I agree entirely - my chickens are happy and OK with their pellets, corn and other bits (all from the garden and kitchen and nothing from eastern Europe or Holton). Look very healthy at the moment. I'm just trying to work out what you have to do and how much you have to pay as a factory ...

I've done the same thing and it was fine. Let it heal - but if it seems to be infected (swelling up and/or going yellow) go to your GP for antibiotics. The risk of tetanus is remote.

amo Glad to here this. My partner teaches in a nursery school and all 60 visited a year or so ago - made maps (mainly for the adults) and made sure there were things to touch, see, feel and taste. Great success. It would be good if allotment holders everywhere let their Council know that they are up...

Compo

To get back to the original question I have just made the beds in my re-located tunnel using a 50/50 mix of well rotted compost and well rotted turves to provie the loam. Has worked OK in the past.

carole Are you thinking about open ground or is there a greenhouse to be watered as well? I have no experience of automatic systems - have always relied on other people. Maybe you need to think about paying someone - teenage child of a friend who would be very happy for a bit of summer work without ...

Oh no not again! - Compost that's past it's sell buy date

Hi I bought a bag of compost last month - carefuly from a garden centre that keeps the bags under cover and which had just recieved a new supply of Bowers multipurpose (with added sand). It felt and smelt OK. BUT the early seedlings are drawn with searching roots - might as well have sown them in pu...

Hi

I agree with JB - as usual - chuck them out and go to your local garden centre where you can see and feel what you are buying. And only buy when you need to plant.

Hi In Btitain during the last 25 years we have seemed to find it so difficult to understand the basics - that is that if we want good public services such as waste collection (and education, clean water, child protection, public safety, an effiicient public transport system and decent care for us wh...

Hi As Mr PH says non latex i.e. vinyl golves are available - I bought vinyl simply because they were less expensive. In the scheme of things I don't think that the used vinyl gloves (which are useful) pose a significant threat to the earth compared with the masses of packaging (which is of no use ex...

Hi

Maybe you could plant them now very carefully given that you live in Devon. But I'm very doubtful - go with Alan's advice and get some more. My KG offer Harlequin arrived ths morning and are now chitting in a light cool place.

On second thoughts - definitely buy some new tubers.
