Best surface for chicken run?

Our 5 hens had quite a large area of lawn fenced off for a run, but quickly destroyed all the grass and all that remains is bare soil, which is fine when it's dry, but when it's wet they have to wade around in the mud. Bulbs in Pots - what to do after flowering?

I planted various daffodil bulbs in pots this year, and they provided a brilliant display, but what is the best thing to do with them now? Can I feed them in the pots and leave them to die down and re-pot next year? If so, what should I feed them with? Any advice much appreciated!

Can anyone settle a debate between me and the present Mrs Wright? She flattens any crane flies that come into the house at night as she reckons they will bite our dogs and infect them with disease.
