Lupin "corms" and purple aquilegia

I too have had a lot of slug damage on my lupins from seed. I purchased two packs of three lupin corms (I'm not sure they actually are corms, but what I mean are the bare-root bits!) from Morrisons in the hope that they would cover my losses but have been hugely disappointed - only one has come up. ...

Ribena plant

I've got two of these already (you can also win on the labels of the 500ml bottles) and have just sent for another 4. The cutting comes in a padded envelope just as a dry stick with buds along the length and instructions for planting. One thing that the instructions do not say is what type of blackc...

Asparagus wee

There is some compound in the asparagus that makes your pee smell of rotting cabbage but it doesn't affect everyone - I think about 60% of people suffer from "asparagus wee".

Hi Mazmezroz,

Jenny Green is our resident forum expert on sweet potatoes. Hopefully she will see this thread and give you some tips; alternatively you could try a search of the archive as there were a few threads on this about a year ago.

Kiwis

I can remember being told when I was cooking as a child never to try and make a trifle or flan with kiwis as the enzymes stop the jelly from setting!

Liquid Gold - medicinal uses

Following on from Vivie's post, when I had a body piercing done some years ago the "piercer" advised that I clean the piercing with my own urine daily in order to prevent infection and speed up the healing process....it worked a treat!

Ferrets/ferrets poo

Further to the above comments about using ferret poo to deter moles/rabbits/rats, in my experience putting ferret dung in to rabbit/rat holes (don't know about moles as I don't seem to have any) is futile as the critters don't seem to be at all bothered by it. The same goes for walking the ferrets r...

Foxes

What you need is a dog like mine: a border collie who thinks he's a lion!!
Any foxes that venture in or near my garden are quickly caught and despatched with the minimum of fuss by old Bob Smith - he'll be 12 this year but still the fastest collie in the east!
