I put my onions on a mesh shelf in the polytunnel to dry a few weeks ago, but when I,ve used some of them the first couple of layers are green. Do you think it is because I put them in the polytunnel to dry as I normally put them in the shed? I have now put them in the shed but they all look green.

Maybe it's what they are supposed to be doing, Mrs I?? I have certainly had that "problem" and have used the onions in the normal way and never considered it unusual. The light in the polytunnel should not have made any difference, I always dry ours off in the fully light greenhouse.

Hi Mrs I,
To put your mind at rest Scallions are onions in the green and are widely eaten not only in UK but right across Europe.
I know that you will enjoy eating the onions you have grown.
JB.
