Just had delivery of three more carnivorous plants - for my growing collection. Gruesomely fascinating.

Hi Diane how did yours over winter ,I had six one looked like it had died but just before winter I seen a tiny bit of green on it ,they have all been in my pollytunnel over winter I know it's the wrong thing to do with them but life is so busy and upside down at the moment and has been for the last three years

Got my first carnivorous plant after going to a lecture last week, hoping it will keep some of the flies away this year.

They are supposed to have a cold winter break - so they should be ok. (Mine are all the hardy types). It's what happens in the wild. They'll be fine even under a blanket of snow. (what varieties are they?) I have venus fly traps, two varieties, and 4 sarracenia (different colours) and two types of cephalotus - also three sundews. Mine were in the conservatory (north facing) which gets minimal heating during the winter. They are just coming back to life now. I've cut off all the brown bits and I can see new growth appearing. It's warming up in the conservatory now - plus there's extra light now as the sun is starting to come round to that part of the house. They are lacking in colour slightly but once in full sun, in a few months, they look glorious.

Cut the flower stalks off the venus fly traps - but the other types can be allowed to flower.

Ive got a Venus fly trap two similar to the tall ones on you photo the other three I will have to check the names if the tags are still on them ,I was told the pots should be in a tray with at least 50 mms of water all round them

Yes, I keep mine in an inch or so of rain water all the time.

POTATO DAY

Potato bed has been dug, composted and sheeted over since 11th January. When I uncovered it things were just germinating so it must have warmed up. Planted 10 rows of 10 feet each; 1 Rocket, 5 Charlotte, 2 Picasso and 2 Carolus. Soil broke up beautifully, now got the polythene back on.

The 12 Rocket I have planted in the polytunnel are coming along nicely if somewhat unevenly. Good job we are getting some nice days as we have rather a lot of over Winter salad to get through. While I was planting potatoes new neighbours moved in - lovely day for your first in the big wide world.

I have to make a confession, it's chewing me up as a bit extravagant. I got some money left to me from a friend of my mother-in-law! Hardly knew her but she was really nice & friendly, anyway not enough to do much with as it would disappear in paying bills & the like in no time, but enough to buy something for lottie & maybe remember her better & the bills get paid anyway now! So I decided to replace the falling apart net tunnel with a poly tunnel!

I asked for quotes from a few company's (I asked them to erect as well), the one I expected to be the dearest as looks a good product came in over most quotes but not by much (& didn't harass me) & I still have change from the modest inheritance to fix the shed floor or maybe a new shed even. (or not)! Currently have someone interested in taking the net tunnel but pushing them so I can catch the season (or I will cut the cable ties so it falls down anyway), & then I will share the new structure when it is on the plot!

Have I got your attention? Which one did I choose? Is it really the best? I am confused myself to be honest but reviews seem more positive. Without telling you what I am likely to choose what are you recommendations?

First tunnels ,but it's the only one I've bought from apart from a green kite from amazon
