Funnily our post office has moved back into the High St. They closed up about 2 yrs ago & everything was out of the main sorting office about 11/2 miles away & on a one an hour bus route, then we noted a long vacated shop in the square being refurbed & Post Office is back.

They must feel they can make money. Usual stamps, parcels, foreign exchange & passport service with some cards & envelopes & stuff - I must check if it has an inside post box, but there is one about 50 yrds away on the High St.

We normally have about half an hour of queing in any of our nearest Post offices now, all down to how many have shut....very annoying when one is in a rush!

Our village post office closed some years ago when the incumbent retired but then the small grocer/newspaper shop owner trained as postmaster and therefore re-opened the post office. It tends to be busy and I think people come from quite a distance (especially businesses which have to post a lot of parcels) because there is easy and close parking. They provide a lot of banking services as well like paying in cheques, withdrawing money etc, so it's a good deal all round, as long as it stays open! That's why we don't get magazine subscriptions, we want to get the profit into the local shop.

And have you been wearing them wrong all these years then Shallot Man? How thoughtful of them to include that advice?

It's a bit like when I worked for wimpeys the wellies would have L and R stamped on the top on the inside but when they were covered in concrete you could not tell which was which till you seen the L and R

Made me think of my early days in the London Dock's' prior to the dreaded health & safety. We used what was called common sense.

Yes no one takes responsibility for anything they do now. My son's friends from Estonia found all our warning signs very amusing. Don't climb pylons you might get electrocuted or deep water, keep out or you might drown. They said they call it natural selection - if you're so stupid it's no great loss.

It's the litigation culture that's come over from the USA, my last employer had me scoring the site, not for dangers to the workforce more so as liability problems should an accident occur, thinking that would absolve them from blame, it doesn't.

All these no win no fee jokers are making things a lot worse than they should be ,some of the claims being made are just disgusting ,on my last day in hospital on the heart ward I was half way through my lunch when they decided to move me to another ward when I asked what the rush was for I got told there was three people with heart problems in a an e and they only had an hour to get them on the heart ward otherwise they would be sued ,makes me wonder were it will stop
