I'm very confused, I pickled a lot of beetroot about a month ago I always boil the beetroot then peel then chop and pour vinegar up to the very top of the jar , today I gave one of my daughter's a jar when she opened it there were small maggots crawling around the top just above the vinegar which had evaporated slightly the lid was slightly cracked could it be fruit flies getting in through a small crack ,I've checked the rest of the jars and they are all clean

You'll have to change to coarse fishing.

Tried breeding my own bait back in the 1970's, also read about wasp grubs, so went and dug up a wasps nest, got stung to high heaven. Bought my bait after that, it was a lot safer lol.

For wasp grubs we used to get a chemical from the chemist (I can't remember what it was called) we soaked paper in it and let it dry ,when you put a light to it the smoke it gave off was unbelievable we would push this into the entrance of the nest and set fire to it then run ,give it half an hour and dig the nest out , my brother and his mate found a nest in some woods near were we lived they were only about nine years old ,they decided it was a good idea to urinate on it one lad got stung on his Willie four times my brother was quick to escape he got seven stings on his backside , he wanted me to suck the poison out he had been watching to many cowboy programs no way I was going to attempt it

Hmm robo!

Glad it was family & you didn't donate that jar! Always check the seals etc when pickling, but a thoughtful gesture to ensure you daughter got a balanced diet. You do need a bit of protein on any salad in my opinion! ;) :)

Take away the pain leave the swelling. :D To kill wasps use petrol (don't light) the fumes kill them in seconds.

Rowboat it's a thing of the past for me the only time I fish fresh water is when I'm in Spain and have a go on the edbro something which has not happened for over twelve months and no sign of happening in the near future
