My automatic login thingy has stopped working. Do you think it is due to my using a new laptop? It worked on my old one.
It's not crucial but I kind of liked it!

Probably, I'm assuming you're ticking the box?
Do not put off thanking people when they have helped you, as they may not be there to thank later.

Yes. Automatic login is dependent on your browser holding a cookie, which is a snippet of code which a remote server can read in order to authenticate you. Unless you've migrated over your old settings to your new machine, you'll probably need to re-authenticate yourself on other sites like this one, too. So, login and tick the box when you have done so, which should create a new cookie which will save your details.
Allotment, but little achieved.
Hello Peter and Felix.
Yes I'm ticking the box...each time I login but it hasn't made any difference.
I haven't migrated my settings to the new machine...wouldn't have a clue how to! I will just have to continue to login manually...it's no big deal really.
Thanks for your help.

Maybe you have cookies turned off. Or rather, cookies are turned off by default on your new computer's browser installation. You can check for this in your browser's preferences and turn them on there if need be.

Select Customise - 3 horizontal black lines top right
Settings
Show Advanced Settings - last item
Under Privacy select Content Settings
Under Cookies mine is set to "Allow Local Data"
If I click "All Cookies and Site Data" and put kitchen in search cookies box I find 5 Kitchen Garden cookies
If yours does all that we need another solution, perhaps anti-virus settings.

I also access the subscribers club (usually a time waster) so they might have come from there. You could try going through the same route and then deleting the three KG cookies, perhaps if it recreates them they will work properly. Could also see if Internet Explorer behaves the same then we are definitely looking for another cause.

I'm having the same problem now too yet nothing has changed on my computer. I can always access the site automatically if I click on a notified thread yet if I want to access just to see if there are any interesting new posts, I have to go through the log in procedure.
