I summise then that the damage was not too deep into the seat after all.??

Hi Clive,
The seats looked quite good after cutting.
After lapping however, some pitting showed itself.
I'll re-assemble & fire it up, B&S engines as you know take some hammering.
I reckon it'll run O.K.
