I totally agree with you about reading the manuals especially when replacing a well loved item. I had an egg cooker, just a standard boiled egg one but after years of loyal service it died. I went for the same brand as got so many years out of it & it was dead cheap from the supermarket. Well it's replacement was all singing, all dancing & could do eggs all sorts of ways - but the simple boiled option was completely different & being impatient I just forged ahead with the tried & tested way. Total disaster!
