Sorry if this has appeared before. Does cutting off the seed head when it appears have any beneficial effect or is it just a question of lifting and eating any bolters.

Yes, it does stop them running to seed. Nip it out as soon as you see it.The onions won't keep and will need to be used first. You might get a thick centre piece you can discard.
