Hello all on this lovely sunny evening in Sussex...
I have a large ledge (around 2ft by 3ft) outside my bedroom window that is covered in lead. I have grown some small basket style tomatoes in a couple of tubs, along with lettuce and basil on this very sunny window ledge and they have been very happy. Last week I harvested the first of these tomatoes and even posted on the subject -they are way ahead of those in the main garden in hanging baskets.
This morning, my husband asked if it was OK to eat the tomatoes as they have, for some time, been resting on the lead as they wait to ripen.
Now normally, any opinion he offers up regarding gardening I tend to ignore as the most time he spends in said garden is walking through to the back gate to walk the dogs - but this time he had me beat! I have no idea - does anyone think that they could absorb lead off the roof?
I appreciate any thoughts on the matter...

As long as you wash them thoroughly I would think that they will be ok.
I like many others used to drink water that lay in lead pipes (but there again there are some that think I'm a bit strange) and I feel fine.
