Hi
We eat lots of green beans and having enjoyed them all summer I can't seem to face buying them in over winter.

I am going to grow winter salads in some window boxes on my gravel bed in my unheated green house would it work for dwarf benas too? I thought maybe pongo?

Your help as usual appreciated
Penny
So far the only thing that's green on my allotment is me.

Hi Penny

I am having a try at this. I sowed some Prince on 22 July in the polytunnel and they are now flowering nicely - remains to be seen if they crop. I certainly wouldn't be happy about sowing as late as this. They need light, which is getting rather short now.

I have grown some outside that are not yet flowering I guess I could dig them up and put inside?

I think they will struggle to get a crop now, both with the reduction in light, but mainly they like to be warm. If we have an Indian summer you might be lucky, but if it is anything like the rest of the summer I don't think they will do much. It is worth a try though.

Mine in gthe polytunnel are setting beans, so I'm hoping for the best.

Update

My late-sown beans are now cropping well. Ate the first last Sunday 28 September - excellent. I will certainly try the same thing again next year.
