Preserving cucumbers

Can anyone advise whether 'ordinary' cucumbers can be used in chutneys and pickles; all recipes I have found say that I should use the 'gerkin' type of cucumber.

She's right. Don't be put off by the simplicity of the recipe. It's like green bean chutney. Gorgeous!

I was told of a similar recipe to this, but was not told to boil the vinegar mixture...result fermenting cucumbers! I will try again.
I don't suffer from insanity .... I enjoy it!

The recipe I have been given sounds well tried and well received so yes I would give it another go. I will be making mine at the weekend.
