Do you have a picture of the complete engine, I'm after a five of six h.p. Briggs and Stratton myself as I bought a Howard rotavator with a 2 h.p. engine but it's way to small

Update.
My local chap advises :
A rebore inadvisable as its an aluminium block.
Date of manufacture is 1970!
B&S replacement with a 35° angled single cylinder is £276
Loncin 3.5 or 5hp is £174 or £180.

Which just goes to prove the world goes round in circles.
I had no idea he was on board, you could have cut out the middleman and gone straight to him

Just be careful I was 20 in 1970, it's only a little while ago...................................
Been gardening for over 65 years and still learning.
The engine is a 3hp, 8 cubic inch unit. What is the problem with it? Although modern replacements fit, there is often something like the belt guard or throttle cable that doesn't quite fit with a new engine. If you do go for new, it will need the 3/4" dia keyed crankshaft so the pulley will fit.

Richard, it burns it's sump oil, needs topping up hourly to avoid going dry at (I estimate) two hours and a slight lean on turning will produce clouds of oil smoke.
The plug is carbon clad to the extent it needs a thorough brass brushing and a quick rub of emery paper between the contacts to actually spark.
Even then it now needs a splash of fuel down the plug hole plus a couple of pulls of the starter prior to reinsertion of the plug.
I was advised that a rebore is uneconomical due to labour charges around £65 per hour and an aluminium block, a new B&S replacement at £276 seems a better option.

I have used US made Merry Tillers with both the GX160 engine and the B & S Intec 800 engines and they are OK, but the extra weight makes them less manouverable. That 3hp side valve was one of the lightest for it's power that you could get. The 5hp side valve Majors too are just that bit heavier. I guess the choice of which engine to replace it with is up to you.
