Apples grated into a fruit cake mixture make a nice moist cake and you can add grated apple to a scone mix, which is very good and if you don't add too much sugar they go very well with a nice strong cheddar cheese.
Personally I can't stand cinnamon, it reminds me of the smell when I went to the dentist when I was small. I know it's traditionally cloves to help toothache but my dentists smelled strongly of cinnamon - and nicotine (he was a chain smoker and put ungloved orange fingers in your mouth). Sorry, you can tell he made an indelible impression
