aka Cyperus esculentus (or chufa sedge)
Has anyone tried to grow these in the UK. I'm wondering if I bought some from the "Retro Sweet Shop" we have here - would they grow? Might give it a go.
What do you think?

I haven,t seen tiger nuts for years and years. Thank you for that childhood reminder. I do once remember somebody at school accidentally eating some anaenome corms? by accident, thinking they were tiger nuts. I wouldn't,t even know where you could get hold of any these days. Are they a hot climate plant? And are they actually nuts or a dried fruit?

I've tried growing these. They grew well enough but did not produce tubers, probably for reasons of day length, as pointed out in the Wikipedia entry. I grew them in a Belfast sink in a greenhouse. I don't know if extra heat is really necessary for them but it seemed like a good idea.
Allotment, but little achieved.
