I heard Chris Evans (of all people) talking on his show last week about garlic. He said that if you take the garlic cloves and microwave them for a few seconds the skins just leap off them and he's right!
I cut the root end off, stick them on a plate, zap them on defrost for 15 seconds and they just slide out of the skin.
It does heat them up, so it's only good for garlic you want to cook with, but I wish I'd know this years ago. The little cloves were often too fiddly to bother with, but this changes everything.
Easy peeling garlic

Excellent tip Chantal, must remember that! Also if you microwave your squash / pumpkin chunk for a bit it makes them easier to peel, just heats below the skin and softens it slightly so you don't have to worry about the knife slipping!

Dear Chantal, Cook has used your tip tonight, with great success, so thank you.
I did try telling her it was my idea, but there was no getting away with it, so in the end i had to admit where it had come from.
I did get a, "Chantal WHO" but all was well when i explained it was from an old lady on the forum...

Sounds a good tip, am I alone in actually liking the smell of garlic on my hands after cooking?

you always make me laugh OH, despite the fact that you are more right than wrong. You may (not) have noticed that I removed my date of birth from my profile some years ago, I hate birthdays. However, since I started going backwards instead of forward and am now a year "younger" than my younger sister, I feel much better about them
It IS a very good garlic tip though.
