My husband asked the young serving lad in the butchers today for half a dozen pork sausages. He had to furtively go up to his boss and ask how many was that? I expressed my surprise at his ignorance but as my husband pointed out, young people have grown up living in a metric not an Imperial measuring system so perhaps not totally surprising although I would have thought most people would have know what a dozen or half a dozen were ! I remember OH the other day mentioning that a counter assistant in a post office didn know how many stamps made up a dozen.

Maybe after Brexit we will go back to gallons and pounds and ounces !

Red Rum ran home a furlong clear of the field.
It's six of one and half a dozen of the other.
Half a pint.

Imperial measurements are so much simpler particularly when it comes to area

Lashing down with rain last night went I went to bed so thought snow would be unlikely but went and got our wellingtons and plastic snow shovel from the garage and put them them in the kitchen just in case. Glad I did as woke this morning to heavy snow !

Well, there is a change ....... Our forecast was for heavy snow but we just had a very slight covering, but it IS cold, down to minus 6 forecast for tonight. All the polyanthus, cyclamen, spring bulbs and herbs in the greenhouse are covered with thick bubble plastic. I contemplated putting on the tubular electric heater but decided against it. The plants will have to brave it out.
