It seems to be becoming a trend, hardly anyone on here seems to attend shows. At least that's the impression I get.
Now having said that I will confess that back in the spring I said I was disappointed with the Malvern Spring Show but that the Autumn show was usually better. Oh dear, sad to report that having attended yesterday (23rd) I didn't think it was this time.
I can't knock the entries for the veg show, in fact I was in awe of many of them. It was the trade stands and other show items such as the classic car display I was disappointed with. I guess for many the cost of exhibiting and all the associated costs, meals hotels et: c is just too high now.
There was a long queue for one stand where they were selling two recently produced items for £3 and giving away 11 packets of seeds. I did not join the queue as I don't like that particular magazine but it was a bargain for many.
We did take advantage of the offer on D T Browns stand and purchased some of our seed requirements for next year @ £1 per packet
plus approx. 160 sets of Radar and 80 of Electric for £5. 4 bulbs Provence Wight Garlic £5
Anticipated footfall at the show over the weekend was circa 65,000
Mrs S has returned today with 3 of her work colleagues who are their own branch gardening club.
HEAVIEST/ BIGGEST VEGETABLE SECTION

The danger when people start to believe their own publicity is that they often fall off their own ego.

TV's Paul Martin was amazed at the size of the entries for "Heaviest Marrow" He had entered but don't think his was placed.
I wonder if he entered the KG competition
Don't think he was too impressed when I pointed out his entry wasn't turn of the century and I doubted he'd 'flog it'

Well I think my swedes could have matched their ugliest.
The leeks were interesting - all leaf and no stem.
oh, just seen your final comment and realised these were the Ugly Sisters exhibits !! Nice to know other people can grow carrots just like mine ! I!m just trying to figure out what that white bulbous exhibit is supposed to be ?

What a gruesome bunch. It just goes to show that you can get a prize for the ugliest too. I like the wrestling carrots that got sixth prize best.
I felt the same as you Pa about the trade stands when I went to Harrogate Show recently, but there were some good bargains from the few seed suppliers that had attended. I must say that I like the spring show better anyway as it is more on buying plants than displaying the harvest.
My conservatory bears a strong resemblance to the cider apple exhibit at the moment too.

For years now I have been meaning to visit the Harrogate show, never got there yet.
Only found DT Browns at this years Malvern Autumn show.
I must be right about it not being so good this year, Mrs S and her 3 gardening friends returned Sunday evening without the usual car full of plants.
After my struggling to get the dogs cage out early Sunday morning to make more room for purchases
