I have a question - if using frozen fespberries, should I cook them first or use them raw? Last time, I cooked them before pureeing, but couldn't help wondering ...

I'd just put them in the blender and then sieve out the seeds. Perhaps I should have said blender rather than puree. You don't even need to sieve the seeds out but it's a much smoother result without them.
I did more or less what you suggested, Primrose, though used my hand-held zapper rather than the blender. Another beautiful batch of ice cream
