Re: Garlic - softneck
Planted them out yesterday under the cloches and the temperature took a real dip last night. The roots on them are amazing. Quite liking these root trainers.

Re: Garlic - softneck
Thanks Colin. I shall plant them outside this week under cloches. We’re supposed to get a real cold snap starting wed so hopefully that will help them separate but also protect the greenery a little.

Re: Garlic - softneck
That’s good to hear Westi. Do you think I should trim the greenery back a little before I plant them out?

Garlic - softneck
I’m thinking I’ve messed up with my garlic. Planted them early January which was when I think they were to be planted, in an unheated stone building in root trainers, thought I’d try them since I had them. They’re looking great. I’m a little worried too great. The greenery is around 6inches tall and...

Re: Preserve your produce
I had a dabble in fermenting during lockdown and made some sourkraut, kimchi and a very nice celeriac, ginger and chilli ferment. Surprisingly easy to do once you figure out the correct salt ratio. Our neighbour at the time let us try their carrot pickle, nearly blew my head off, but didn’t deter me...

That’s a good point OH. Not seen Tigerburnie on her recently. Maybe they’re recovering from their festive excesses?

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Didn’t get into the garden at all over Christmas OH as it tipped down constantly here. Now the weather is a little better i.e. less rain, we have hard frost and snow. Ho hum, I’m supposed to be observing this year anyway… at least that’s what I’m telling myself. The greenhouse placement has changed ...

House Plants
OK, I’ve got a dirty little secret… I’ve become addicted to thebeardedplantaholic on insta and I’m coming out of the closet! I’m addicted to house plants (well any plants really) and his feed has finally given me permission to go nuts on the house plant side. I apologise to my other half in advance…...

Re: Burnt out
LOL, that is my life Westi, I work with people who are ill, and sometimes they don’t listen and things get worse, at which point it is usually decided it is my fault, never their fault, come on how could it be?! Most of the time I deal with it very well as it is an intermittent thing but there was a...

Re: Burnt out
Sorry guys, I’m absolutely fine, just somewhat fed up with people’s lack of ability to take responsibility for their lives and their choices. Couldn’t get somewhere remote to have a scream so did one virtually lol. Yesterday was a particularly grumpy day for me. Come summer I’ll be fine as my degree...

LOL, I like a little heat but my hubbie has poor taste and if he’s cooking it’s pot luck as to whether you have a tongue at the end of eating.

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.
It’s quietly treacherous up here currently, so quietly that a (empty) school bus slid sideways down a hill into several cars. Happily the driver was ok.
Not too windy so your cussing might not make it as far as Scotland, good luck with the shed.

Re: Neighbours
I know a lot of older people that won’t accept help, not even from family. They worry about being a burden, they worry about losing their independence, about being put into care as someone may think they are unable to care for themselves… and many other things. It’s complex and their intention will ...
