Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2017.
Actually they are being really silly if you think about it! If someone orders online chances are they are confident growers, know what they want, go for a deal & know how to complain both directly & on multiple forums. If someone is just browsing at the garden centre looking forward to cream...

Re: Carrot news from the farmette.
I tried garlic with my dogs, but made no real difference. You do have to rotate the products you use though, don't stick to the same one on & on. For example there is a new Frontline out in Australia as the old one became totally ineffective, guess which one is only available here? Too easy hey?...

Re: Carrot news from the farmette.
You may regret that explanation of the dog differences. They all come with some trait or another - Betti is still young & you've a growing season ahead!

Re: Top tips to start seed off
I used to go on Metcheck to get long range weather forecasts (read something weird about that site so stopped) & would have known not to sow just yet, but just a week at a time deceives you! Note to self - long term, not short term! I'm with you PP - another rummage in the seed bag to see what I...

Re: Giving up poultry....
Cats are indeed funny! My oldest black cat leaves us for a couple of weeks each year & moves in with a girl down the road. She is vegan but Echo still stays that long eating bread & drinking almond milk. Weird, but we have figured it co-incides with when the middle cat goes into season. Will...

Re: Top tips to start seed off
Will probably get to test it twice PP. Despite the grow light, the cloudy dull weather is making the ones that are up a bit too leggy. The toms will be OK potted on deeper but feel I'll be re-sowing some of the other stuff, probably when the weather shows more than one sunny day in a fortnight thoug...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2017.
Been raining all day here & i had a wee look at the weather on my phone and have rain clouds showing everyday up to Tuesday week! I have puddles everywhere on the lawn, but whiled away the day cleaning & re-arranging the kitchen cupboards. I'll be cursing for the next week or so, but felt pr...

I take back the above about the kitten, but the white bloom has gone.

Re: Cold frame use
You could invest in a high / low thermometer and test the cold frame & the shed Colin. Definitely good for them to have good light & wind protection. In & out is indeed the game when hardening off the wee plants, and it is a pain having them on the window sills & turning them around ...

Re: Top tips to start seed off
OK! I'm trying the cinnamon tip as my baby seedlings are starting to come up but there is a wee white bloom on some of the compost - looks more fungi like at this stage but it is not mushroom compost. Taking no chances, but one positive thing the cinnamon has done is stopped the kitten eating the co...

Re: The DIG game. DESERT ISLAND GARDENER
Time to revert to early man mode then. Sticks it would be as tools, hopefully a bit pointed from ripping them off the trees & then could dig a bit. Got a beach, so some sand to mix among the clay & there is plants so maybe leaf mould? Now assuming I am starving & sick of fish (another go...

Re: Cold frame use
Hi Colin When are you thinking of putting them in the cold frame? I wouldn't consider it until they are proper little bushy chilli plants, potted on a couple of times & agree with insulating it, and if we have a terrible cloudy spring maybe a bit of reflective material. In general nothing too sm...

Re: New patch
Hi & Welcome New patch! I think you need to do a test patch dig - what is the soil like under the sand, looks OK but how deep? If it is clay - dig in the sand, it it sandy through & through you could still dig in the sand but add loads of compost & manure as well! Don't worry about the m...

OH! Very Funny! Pa - transfer the contents? OK - Best not - fair play & all of that! I never submit anything cooked/made into the lottie show - taste is so subjective! Read I don't do carrot cupcakes with little bunnies on the top & always get the spoon into any jam or pickles before the sho...
