My French beans in the greenhouse are getting so tall now about 9-12 inches they have their long curly bits which need supporting. The days are not too bad here on the South Coast but the nights are still chilly. Do I risk planting out or not? Such decisions.

Re: Now it is Spring Time (Confirmed)
Spring starts for me when the blossom breaks. My plum trees are a picture, the Magnolias are out and so is the Forsythia. With the wallflowers in full flower and the bees are busy humming - wonderful.

Re: Emergency planting
Personally I think you should treat your plot like you would a new house. Get the foundations right and it will give you many years of good crops. I remember when we first started out it was in May we grew nothing for the first year at all; spending all our time clearing, digging weeding etc. and ge...

Black/red currants
I have a new neighbor who wants to grow black/red currants in pots. Has anyone done this successfully and which varieties would you recommend?
Thanks

Re: No dig course
Primrose, If the soil is turned over when crops come out it is the heavy digging that isn't necessary.

Re: How long did your non-stick last ?
Westi, I have been using Le Creuset since the 70's. I still use the casserole but the saucepans I gave to my daughter when they became to heavy for my wrists. The first time she used them the linings chipped. I was told it was because she had filled them with cold water straight after using to soak....

Since the TKG changed I can no longer reach the Home Page from the Forum page. Any ideas why?

Re: Leafmould.
I collect up all the leaves from my fruit trees and add them to the compost bin in small quantities with all the other green waste. No problems with them rotting down that way.
Maybe standard trees are different and take longer.

Hi Par Snip,
Yes, I do agree with you it does look very good stuff. I am sorry if I was being too critical but really just agreeing how difficult it is to obtain good manure delivered. I am sure when spread on your beds it will give very good results.
Kind Regards

Re: Good suppliers. (got someone you can recommend ?)
I think we all have difficulty if finding suppliers of manure that will deliver Par Snip. I am on the constant look out. Finding stables that have transport is the problem. We are fortunate to have one that also needs his lorry for his business. A 3 ton load rotted which is as near as I can judge th...

I had never heard of it Monika and looked it up. Hope you haven't got it; it sounds devastating. Thankfully my beans are looking very healthy and a few more still to come.

No one has mentioned buying through their allotment association which must be the cheapest way if you have one and belong; Not all of you do I know. We pay just £1. per kilo for all varieties except the specialist ones.
