Re: Laurel - cyanide
Interesting and valid question given the fact that laurel hedges grow quickly and need to be pruned regularly to prevent them becoming unbearably thick and high. I will go away and Google the issue pending an expert reply.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Well Westi, once a gardener, always a gardener,. Even if you can't physically do it any longer the interest is still there. And thankfully my other half has gown so used to having fresh veg from the garden for 50 years that he's prepared still to grow few items under my supervision! And he,s learnin...

Re: Please help my dying Cheese plant?
Where re you living? Is this a Swiss cheese plant whixh in the UK is kept indoors all year round because it wouldn't survive our winter climate. Perhaps you!re living in sunnier climes? Sound as if it,s come to the end of its natural life though and possibly too late to rescue. Sounds as if the whit...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Our gardening support guy came this morning to help Mr Primrose sort out our potting shed area. It has apparently descended into chaos since I,ve had to give up gardening. Lost count of the hundreds of pots, cells trays and other items thrown out onto patio for disposal. Just enough kept for the few...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
We've had two sleepless nights from gales here, expecting to lose roof slates or fence panels but only minor incidents. Various trees down locally though. Do you think the combination of drought followed by heavy rainfall weakens their wind resistance over time?
Hopefully everybody is safe.

Re: Neighbours
Delighted that it,s all worked out so well. You,ve probably added a new perspective into your neighbours' lives as well as having a positive motive for cooking. A double win in my view.
And knowing your interest in cooking they,ll probably end up with a few more occasionally healthy options too.

Re: January Jobs?
My only issue with hanging baskets is the amount of watering they need in a hot dry summer. I belatedly disovered water absorption crystals which might have helped a little but discovered when gardening time is in short supply, these containers are too labour intensive.

Well done on the lemons Westi. That must feel quite an achievement as I know they,re pretty hard to rear in our climate, even with the benefit of winter cover.
Good job you keep some spare emergency clothing in your allotment shed! slippery mud can be a real accident causer.

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.
I,m surpsed at how many lumps of moss recent strong winds and heavy rain downpours have blown off our roof slates down onto the patio.
It,s almost as if we,ve lost a free layer of insulation, (does a moss coating actually provide much insulation I wonder?).

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.
it's almost beginning to feel like we needn't bother to check the forecast because we know it's going to be more rain! Don't know about the need for electric cars to save the planet. We need to be building more Arks ! If Noah was still alive he'd be saying "I told you so! What took you so long?...

Re: Christmas!
The older I get, the more I dread it i,m afraid. It seems to bring news of more of our friends and contacts passing away, and a growth in false commercial congeniality where the general oublic are tempted to spend more money buying things they can,t afford and probably don,t often need anyway. The s...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.
I think the 'extra securing" issue is going to be more relevant as time goes by. Yesterdays winds caused a fence panel to blow loose here and the down pipe from our guttering which connects to our already full water butts was blown out, causing our potting shed area to flood temporarily. Annoyi...

Yes, definitely a day to be thankful to be indoors and for the fact that your roof doesn't leak !
What's the betting though that somewhere in the country a water supplier will opt to impose a summer hosepipe ban?

Greetings from a very windy neck of the woods. May all your fences remain intact!. Bad luck with the flu. It's apparently hit some people quite badly this winter.
